As part of a global SAP S/4HANA transformationcprogram, Covestro aimed to establish a robustcdigital backbone to shape the company's future, increase efficiency and enable innovation.
However, like in many large enterprises, master data processes had historically been designed by experts for experts. SAP MDG environments required specialized knowledge, making data creation and maintenance complex for everyday users.
This resulted in long processing times, frequent clarification loops, shadow processes and unnecessary handoffs. Business partner onboarding and material data creation in particular were lengthy and error-prone. Data quality checks often happened too late, leading to rework, duplicate records and delays that impacted downstream operations.
Covestro's ambition was to bridge the gap between technical complexity and end-user needs. Employees needed tools to guide them through complex SAP processes, prevent errors and maintain governance standards, while reducing lead times. This required a combination of automation, user-friendly design, and integration with trusted data sources to ensure entries were first-time right.
At the same time, the company needed to prevent duplicate business partners, validate addresses against trusted external sources and enrich records with critical attributes such as VAT numbers and geo codes. All of this had to happen seamlessly within SAP S/4HANA.

Covestro developed two AI-driven chatbots, connected to SAP S/4HANA, that guide users step by step through data creation and change processes, combining guided input with real-time validation against internal data sources and SAP Data Quality Management to ensure completeness and consistency before submission.
PARIS - Partner Artificial Realtime Intelligence Specialist
Through a real-time connection to the CDQ data mirror, PARIS prevents duplicate records and validates addresses against official commercial registers and premium sources such as Moody's. Golden records automatically enrich entries with VAT numbers and geo codes, ensuring first-time-right quality directly at entry.
MARIS - Material Artificial Realtime Intelligence Specialist
MARIS addresses the complexity of material master processes, guiding users through tasks such as packed material creation and plant or sales view extensions, while ensuring compliance with corporate standards across every record.

The introduction of PARIS and MARIS significantly reshaped master data management at Covestro. Information owners can now enter high-quality data directly, eliminating unnecessary handoffs and dramatically shortening processing times.
Data quality improved noticeably. With guided workflows and automated validation in place, the organization now gets it right the first time, instead of correcting errors downstream. The automation of checks and enrichment also reduced manual workload by hundreds of days each year.
