Evonik pilots its first agent to agent connection with CDQ Genius

The challenge
Evonik, a global chemical company with approximately 31,000 employees, wants to use AI systematically and scale proven solutions across the organization, so that AI delivers measurable business value. Master data still raised many questions that people answered manually, such as how good the data of top customers is, how many vendor records contain errors or how to onboard a new vendor.
Each new business partner required business documents to be read and the data to be validated before it could be created in SAP. New employees in particular needed time to understand the onboarding process. Evonik was looking for faster insight and less manual work, supported by AI agents that work with data it can trust.
The experience
Evonik connected two of its own agents to CDQ Genius: a Data Quality Steward in Microsoft Copilot, which answers data quality questions, and a Master Data Steward in SAP Joule, which reads business documents and creates new business partners on request.
Evonik runs this connection as a pilot, the first time its own agents work with an external agent. The key difference lies in the data: CDQ Genius brings trusted external reference data from the CDQ Data Sharing Community, which the agents use next to Evonik's own SAP data.
Work on the connection began at the end of June 2026 and CDQ involved its teams right away. Evonik decided to move fast while keeping a person in control of every new business partner.
The results
Evonik set up the communication with CDQ Genius as a pilot. After two to three months, it was up and running and proved three things. Documents in any format, even unstructured ones, are understood without manual entry: the Master Data Steward extracts the information while CDQ Genius verifies the company.
Business partners that already exist are recognized at upload, because CDQ Genius finds the existing record before a duplicate arises. When a company matches neither Evonik's SAP data nor CDQ reference sources, it is flagged before anyone creates it. As the next step, Evonik will build in the approval steps needed for production deployment and connect further agents to CDQ Genius.
